LAN welcomes new oneworld members

From April 1st, 2007, oneworld has completed the biggest expansion in its history. Japan Airlines (JAL), Malév Hungarian Airlines, Royal Jordanian Airlines, LAN Argentina and LAN Ecuador will join the alliance. These incorporations will complete oneworld´s biggest expansion ever.

JAL, Malév and Royal Jordanian will be incorporated as full member offering oneworld´s services and benefits.Additionaly, LAN Argentina and LAN Ecuador and JAL associates - JALways, Japan Asia Airways, JAL Express, J-AIR and Japan Transocean Air- will join the group as affiliate members.

Along with these incorporations, more than 20 million of frequent flyers of these airlines will be able to earn and redeem awards on any oneworld´s member airlines. This includes more than 19 million JAL´s frequent flyers, 75.000 Malév´s Duna Club frequent flyers and 600.000 Royal Jordanian Royal Plus´members. VIP members will be able to access more than 400 vip lounges around the world.

LAN Argentina and LAN Ecuador will be joining other LAN airlines - LAN Airlines, LAN Express and LAN Perú - already members of this alliance. This will reinforce oneworld´s leadership on the area as the single global alliance with members on Central and South America (south of Mexico). With the incorporation of the five airlines that form LAN´s alliance, oneworld becomes the best choice for passengers travelling from, to and within Latinamerica.

The addition of this airlines has expanded oneworld substantially to:

  • Almost 700 airports, around a hundred more than now.
  • Nearly 150 countries.
  • 9,000 daily departures, a thousand more than today.
  • Around 315 million passengers, 65 million more than at present.
  • 265,000 employees.
  • Almost 2,500 aircraft.
  • Nearly US$90 billion annual revenues, up by a third.

 

As announced, on April 1st, 2007, Air Lingus has withdrawn form oneworld with its low-fare, point-to-point strategy no longer in line with the alliance's main focus on multi-sector, premium, frequent, international travellers.
