An upgrade allows you to move up to the class directly above the one specified on your ticket. That is to say, if you purchased a Tourist Class ticket, and upgrade will allow you to move up to Executive Class and if you bought an Executive Class ticket, an upgrade will allow you to move up to First Class.
Three are three ways to procure upgrades:
Tip:Flights to all destinations in South America, the Caribbean, Easter Island and Papeete require only one upgrade coupon for each leg of a round trip.
In addition to exchanging your LANPASS kilometers for free tickets, you can also trade them for upgrades to the class directly above the one specified on your ticket on any LAN flight.
This rewards exchange is also valid for round-trip flights.
Consult the reward table to see how many kilometers are needed for an upgrade depending on your destination.
In order to exchange LANPASS kilometers for upgrades, contact the LANPASS Call Center or visit any LAN office.
Note: Upgrade awards for LAN flights with routes flown through our associated airlines require and additional document that validates the upgrade. The award must be issued at least 72 hours prior to the departure of the flight at any LAN office.
Upgrade coupons are an exclusive benefit available to members of the LANPASS Elite categories: Premium, Premium Silver and Comodoro.
With these coupons, Elite Members can move up to the class directly above the one specified on their tickets on LAN flights at no additional charge when there is available space. The Upgrade Coupons can also be transferred to a travel companion.
A travel companion can only receive coupons from one account holder. For example, a Premium member can combines his or her two coupons with two more from a Premium Silver member for a route requiring four coupons.
An Elite member can provide coupons to more than one companion provided it is for the same flight (e.g. a Premium Silver member can give two coupons to each of his or her companions).
Each coupon is good for either leg of a round trip (one way coupons) and in the case of certain destinations (the United States , Europe and Australia , among others) that require more than one coupon for either leg a round trip. Learn how many coupons are necessary for eachTip:
1. Seating priority depends on Elite Membership rank and order of arrival at the counter. We recommend arriving as early as possible.
2. Vacation destinations (unlike business destinations) do not have a minimum fare requirement needed to effect the upgrade. Vacation destinations also carry a greater probability of available seating in the Business Cabin.
The number of coupons received depends on the member's category. Comodoro Members receive coupons intended for travel companions due to the fact that Comodoro Members have unlimited upgrade rights (available seating permitting).
Every time a member qualifies for a category, their new upgrade coupons will be accredited to their account within a period of 10 days. This way, you can check to see how many coupons you have available and how many have been used, as they will be available electronically on your Upgrade Account Statement at www.lan.com .
*Once you've qualified, your coupons will be accredited within 10 days. The electronic upgrade benefit is valid beginning April 1, 2007.
1) Once you've qualified for a category, your new upgrade coupons will be accredited to your Upgrade Account Statement within a period of 10 days.
2) Check the number of coupons required for the route you'll be flying and the minimum required fare. If your ticket has already been issued, and fails to meet the minimum required fare for using the upgrade benefit, you can request that the ticket be re-issued at a higher fare, paying the difference. This is subject to the fare regulation and availability at the time. This re-issuance can be effected prior to the flight at LAN offices or via the LANPASS Call Center , where you can pay online using your credit card.
Important: LAN airport offices are not authorized to realize this kind of ticket re-issuance.
3) Request the Upgrade when checking in at the airport, providing your member number (which is printed on your card).
4) If there is space available on the flight, we will notify you at the boarding gate.

Comodoro member can move up to the class directly above the one specified on their tickets on LAN flights at no additional charge whenever there is available space.
When checking in, provide your member category and request the upgrade, If there is available space, you will be notified as to whether you can use the benefit or not by a LAN representative at the counter, in the VIP Lounge or at the boarding gate.
