LAN offers its passengers Special Services to make flying with us as comfortable as possible. Following please find the list of Special Services LAN has to offer.
Unaccompanied minors are defined as passengers between the ages of three and 12, traveling alone or accompanied by an airline escort.
Our General Policy regarding the admittance of Child (between the ages of two and 11) stipulates that:
If none of the above standards are met, the child may travel by means of the Unaccompanied Minor service, provided the following requirements are fulfilled:
In cases involving children between the ages of five and 11, the UM service is mandatory. Payment of the percentage of the fare corresponding to the UM service is required. Should there be no existing specific fare regulation, one must pay the CHD fare.
For children between the ages of 12 and 14, the service is optional. Adult fares apply.
The service requires the payment of a charge per online itinerary segment:
Domestic Routes (including IPC): USD15
International Routes (including LPB): USD 30
UM are only accepted on itineraries operated by LAN. These conditions do not apply to either inter-airline connections or LAN marketing flights.
A maximum of eight UM (without escorts) per flight (simultaneously on one aircraft) is permitted. The PNR must include name and contact telephones numbers for the points of departure, destination and transit.UM service may only be confirmed be the Department of Sales Service through the element SSR:UMNP with HK or KK (not OSI or RMK) status. Those UM not confirmed by the department will only be allowed to board under the condition that the number of UM does not exceed the maximum permitted by the airline (taking into account the flight’s complete trajectory). If this limit is exceeded, then the UM must be made to board an alternative flight where these security norms can be met (no penalty fees for change of flight or travel date will apply).
The UM must be accompanied by an adult who can perform check-in duties for them. This individual must remain on the airport premises for the 20 minutes preceding and following the flight’s departure.
The Unaccompanied Minor Form must always be completed and provide all the child’s personal information, as well as the personal information of both the individual responsible for dropping the child off at the airport and the person responsible for picking the child up at the point of destination.
In cases where the flight in question is overbooked, UM with paid tickets can be considered for DBC voluntary payment. The adult companion present can negotiate the terms of compensation. This will always be the case in instances where the part of the UM form requiring the signature of party accepting responsibility for the child in question has not been signed.
UM service will not be permitted in cases where the child in question requires assistance to get around due to a physical condition (WCHC). In these cases, an individual meeting certain requirements must accompany the child.
The admittance of UM with slight mental disabilities is permitted under the conditions delineated in Chapter 3.20 of the MOA. All requests for UM service for children with other types of disabilities must be evaluated by the airline doctor. In cases where MEDIF is required, UM service will not be permitted.
Minors between the ages of three and five (that is to say, through the day preceding the child’s fifth birthday) may only travel in the company of an airline functionary who is not part of the on-board crew. A maximum of two escorted children will be accepted per flight. For every two minors traveling under the same PNR –that is to say, with the same OW or RT itinerary (related by blood or not) – one escort will be required. The addition of a third minor will require the payment of another escort. In the case of minors who are not traveling together (even if they share the same itinerary), one escort will be charged to each minor.
UM service must be requested at least eight days in advance for international routes and at least four days in advance for national routes. The cost of the service will depend upon the cost of a one-way ticket (at normal rates) for the escort/companion and the UM will pay the adult fare (depending on the route).
UM with tickets depending on available space will only be admitted on flights without intermediate stops and without connections. If the UM are traveling with a positive-space ticket, they will be exempt from the preceding restrictions. However, they must have a confirmed reservation. In the case of UM with “disembarkable” postive-space tickets, boarding can be refused at the point of origin, but they may not be made to disembark at an intermediate stop.
