LAN announces that, due to the historically unprecedented fuel prices, and in keeping with the practices of airlines all over the world, it will be necessary for the company to apply a fuel surcharge (separate from the ticket fare), which will vary in accordance with the international price of fuel (Spot Price).
Note: Fuel surcharge does not apply for flights starting in
Canada, Colombia, Brasil, Argentinian domestic routes and LAN Ecuador routes.
In the case of International Routes, the value of the Fuel Surcharge is related to the behavior of the market price for fuel. The Petroleum Reference Price used to establish these values will be the WTI barrel set by the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) and will be calculated as the monthly linear average of the daily closing values for each calendar month.
LAN will revise and update the Petroleum Reference Price on a monthly basis - effective the first business day of each month - and will implement any change with respect to the Fuel Surcharge within seven days of the date of revision.
The value of the Fuel Surcharge is related to the behavior of the market price for fuel. The Petroleum Reference Price used to establish these values will be the WTI barrel set by the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) and will be calculated as the monthly linear average of the daily closing values for each calendar month.
The value of the Fuel Surcharge, then, will depend on the range in which
the Petroleum Reference Price falls, in accordance with the following table:
| WTI Barrel Price (US$) | Fuel surcharge per one way segment (**) | |
| Regional Routes | Long Haul Routes | |
| less than 40 | 0 | 0 |
| More than or equal to 40 and less than 45 | 10 | 20 |
| More than or equal to 45 and less than 50 | 13 | 30 |
| More than or equal to 50 and less than 55 | 15 | 40 |
| More than or equal to 55 and less than 60 | 18 | 50 |
| More than or equal to 60 and less than 65 | 20 | 60 |
| More than or equal to 65 and less than 70 | 23 | 70 |
| More than or equal to 70 and less than 75 | 25 | 80 |
| More than or equal to 75 and less than 80 | 28 | 90 |
| More than or equal to 80 and less than 85 | 30 | 100 |
| More than or equal to 85 and less than 90 | 33 | 110 |
| More than or equal to 95 and less than 100 | 35 | 120 |
| More than or equal to 95 and less than 100 | 38 | 130 |
| More than or equal to 100 and less than 105 | 40 | 140 |
| More than or equal to 105 and less than 110 | 43 | 150 |
| More than or equal to 110 and less than 115 | 45 | 160 |
| More than or equal to 115 and less than 120 | 48 | 170 |
| More than or equal to 120 and less than 125 | 50 | 180 |
This way, the Fuel Surcharge will rise and fall depending on the behavior of the market price for fuel. In keeping with this criteria, all changes will be made effective with the publication of a new value on our website www.lan.com, or via the systems of distribution, a process that takes a week after the decision to change is made.
In accordance with the table shown above, routes are divided into two categories:
a) Long Haul Routes: All routes to and from South America (this does not include Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic to North America).
b) Regional Routes:
- All routes within South America
