170,000 travel agents worldwide vote:

LAN Airlines selected leading airline of South America

Santiago, December 19th 2007.

LAN Airlines was voted South America 's Leading Airline in the recent World Travel Awards ceremony.

The prizes were awarded based on votes from approximately 170,000 professionals and travel agents from around the world. At the time, one world- an alliance encompassing the LAN Service Alliance, as well as American Airlines, British Airways Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malév Hungarian Airlines, Qantas and Royal Jordanian, altogether with their 20 affiliates-was also elected, for the fifth year in a row, as the World's Leading Alliance.

The World Travel Awards were established in 1993 to identify and celebrate the achievements of the travel industry worldwide. During these years, new technology has ensured that it remains as one of the fastest growing industries on the planet. At the same time, professionals of the travel industry and their customers have grown to regard these awards as the most prominent in the industry.

The World Travel Awards are considered the most comprehensive travel award ceremony, acknowledging all areas of the travel industry. Prizes are awarded based on votes from travel agents in 190 countries. The categories are classified into 8 different regions (Africa, Asia/Pacific, Caribbean, Central and Latin America, Europe, Middle East, North America and South America). These sectors are, in turn, divided according to the different sectors of the travel industry. Thousands of votes are registered online every year through the World Travel Awards' official website.
